A trek to majestic Bhrigu Lake
Saisha Sharma
Just imagine a place where the air is so fresh, the
sky so blue, and the only sound you hear is the chirping of birds and crunch of
dry leaves underfoot. That’s the world I discovered when I started my trek to Bhrigu
Lake in Himachal Pradesh.
After spending a day exploring the market in Old
Manali, sampling the variety in the local cuisine, and capturing the scenic
vistas, I began my journey from the Himtrek camps located in the old part of
town, surrounded by towering peaks. Following a scrumptious breakfast, we
embarked on a picturesque drive from Manali to Gulaba, the starting point of
our trek.
As we began, I couldn’t contain my excitement. It
was an excitement mixed with a bit of nervousness as this was my first
post-Covid trek, and first after six years. But as I walked through the lush
forests filled with tall, dark-green trees and gurgling streams, I felt a sense
of peace. I didn’t know I had so much energy left in me. It was like stepping
into a different world after a long time, far away from the hustle and bustle
of everyday life.
The trek wasn’t easy though. The path was steep and
rocky, but with each step I was determined to reach the destination. We set up
camp for the night in Rohli Khel, where we enjoyed dinner, and a campfire and
soothing music, under the stars.
After another day of trekking, we finally caught
sight of Bhrigu Lake, which shimmered like a jewel. Only six out of the 80
people in our party reached the final point, among them me. But the effort was
worth it because of the view, which took my breath away. I couldn’t believe
that I had made it all the way here. It’s a sense of accomplishment and
gratitude that I will cherish forever.
We spent the rest of the day exploring the area
around the lake, taking in the stunning scenery and snapping photos to freeze
the moment. And as the sun set, we returned to base camp and gathered around a
campfire to share stories and laughter. It was a magical experience, being
surrounded by nature’s beauty and the warmth of newfound friends.
After a final lunch in town, we boarded our
transportation and started the journey back home, feeling grateful for the
experiences we shared and the bonds we had formed along the way.
And as I looked back on the journey, I realised
that the memories I had made would stay with me forever. Because trekking to
Bhrigu Lake was more than just a physical adventure. It taught me to appreciate
the simple things in life and to find joy in the midst of challenges.
So, if you ever find yourself longing for adventure
and craving a connection with nature, I urge you to embark on this trek. It’s
not just a test of endurance; it’s an opportunity to bond with nature while
pushing your limits, and also a chance to discover the wonder of the Himalayas.
Just remember to avoid going during the monsoon
season!
