In today’s fast moving world, it’s ironic that we have apps to track everything, from calories to steps, yet we’re still hesitant to track our mental well-being. For a very long time, mental health was a taboo topic, almost like an elephant in the room, evident, impactful yet blatantly ignored or quietly swept under the rug. People were hesitant to talk about it, leave alone come out to admit they were struggling with it. However, times are changing and we have come a long way in stepping out of that judgement zone when it comes to delving deeper into topics like anxiety, depression and mental well-being. The poignant discussions around mental health aren’t just the trendy topic of the hour, but a movement to normalize seeking help, taking charge of your overall mental well-being and accepting that sometimes it’s okay to not be okay. We quickly consult a doctor for a broken arm or leg, so why not a broken heart or disturbed mind?
Acknowledgment and acceptance is the first step on any healing journey. It’s time we shed any hesitations or judgements surrounding mental health and accept it as a fundamental part of our holistic wellness. By having those difficult conversations seeking therapy or embracing mindfulness, we can break down the stigmas attached to the subject, create an open channel and have people more readily accept it and come out to seek help. A healthy mind isn’t a luxury, it’s a necessity. Together, we can create a world where mental health awareness isn’t just a hush-hush topic but a way of life.
