A UNIQUE EXPERIENCE IN AN OVERLANDING VEHICLE
It was in a month
of November when Shillong was blooming with cherry blossoms and It was just the
right time to visit Meghalaya.
We landed at Guwahati airport and straight away reached to the person who made
our trip unique and memorable.
It was a Thar with
a camper on top and as soon as we saw it, we got so excited to envisage our
trip.
We quickly learned
how to set up the tent and the technical parts of it and headed to our first
destination… Cherrapunji.
As soon as we got
into the car, we realized that we had no music as the car didn’t have Bluetooth
and we didn’t have cable to connect, and network was another issue. However, as
soon as we got out of the main city, the views were so amazing that we forgot
about the music and got lost in the beauty of the surroundings. Suddenly FM
Radio station started working with some English countryside music which was
just appropriate for the entire experience.
In Meghalaya, 5’o
clock in the evening is so dark that you feel it’s already close to midnight.
So, first day our plans went for a toss. We had to stay in the outskirts as it
was already too dark and Cherrapunji was still far. This made us realized that we
need to change our itinerary to align with the sun rise and sunset.
With an overlanding
vehicle, to park and stay in it, it is advisable to book a resort to be safe.
The person who gave us the vehicle suggested few places and when we finally
reached the resort, and it was breathtaking.
It was a starry
night and camper was parked in an open area of 22 acres approximately. We had
mixed feelings about the entire thing as we never did something like this
before.
We asked the resort
guys to do the bonfire for us and with booze, food and music it was an amazing
evening. We went up and it was cold and as the night was progressing, it was
indeed colder. Although, we had the sleeping bags in the vehicle, we realized
that was not enough. I am not used to sleeping on the hard surface, so I had
little difficulty, but my husband slept well.
It was an overall
good experience but with more preparation in advance it would have been much
better, we realized. In the morning, when we opened our eyes, it was an amazing
view. We got up early as sun rises very early there, so tent started to heat
up.
We got ready to reach
to our next destination, with such good memories in our heart. It was an
experience which we can never forget in our life.
